2017 update

The band are currently recording their 5th studio album and due to unforeseen circumstances (illness) we have been unable to complete this in time for 2017 and have subsequently postponed the Eastbourne Lammas concert on 29th July as well as Hawth Theatre 1st September – both dates will be reinstated for 2018 where hope to present our new album full of new original songs, one or two old songs brought up-to-date and some lively tunes. Best wishes Mark, Bonnie, Chris, Dave & Kimberley.

6th November 2017 – update:

We are back on track now with recording and have some great new songs and tunes to present on our next CD which is scheduled for summer 2018 (or earlier if we can complete it). Distance apart is still a difficulty but we intend to do as many live dates as possible in 2018 and arrange for availability on ITunes etc.

Band news 2016

Touchstone will be performing 3 main concerts in 2016, the most important will be our 25th consecutive performance at Crawley Folk Festival (Hawth Theatre) . This event has been the glue that has held the band together for so many years and Mark (guitar)  has been heavily involved with the resurrection of the festival which had declined until 2014 when the event returned to it’s former 1990′s glory! This year’s event is on Saturday 25 June –  Touchstone 15.30pm -16.30pm Band Stage, and then 18.00pm -20.00pm for a full Ceilidh.

A smaller acoustic gig at the Hawth Theatre Crawley Sun 29 May Band stage 19.10pm -19.50pm.

The original line up for Crawley in June will be Bonnie, Mark, Chris, Steve and Dave plus Kimberley Burden on flute who is replacing Rowena McArthur who is currently working with her family in the Middle-East.

The acoustic line-up for the May gig will be Bonnie, Mark, Kimberley and Maxim (fiddle who played with us at Eastbourne Lammas festival 2015).

The band will also be at Eastbourne Lammas Festival on Saturday 30th July afternoon time tba.

There are a number of Ceilidhs this year, most are private events but details and links to tickets can be obtained for some by contacting

Touchstone would love to play more but everyone is spread wide and far (Chris is now mainly in Germany) and we all have other musical projects but really enjoy getting back together each year – long may it be the case. Mark Orchin 6.2.16

Update 31.7.16

Please see gigs 2017 for more information.

Touchstone played a storming set of original material at yesterday’s Eastbourne Lammas festival and have been asked back for 2017.

A new CD has been started and will be available mid 2017, and will consist of completely new songs, one or two revisions and tunes – details will be regularly updated on this site.

Band news 2015

2015 sees our 24th year as performers at Crawley Folk Festival at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley with the full band. Our flautist Rowena is moving to work with her family to the UAE so will only appear with us occasionally for the next few years, but Bonnie’s daughter Kimberley has offered to fill the role in the meantime – well done.

We are writing new songs at the moment and planning a new recording which we hope will be available in 2016 to coincide with 25 years at CFF, the plan is to print a limited edition 100 copies and release the new album along with all back catalogue on iTunes around that time, plus upload much more onto YouTube.

Although we are still very much a band distances and commitments make it hard to get together so please enjoy what we have to offer this year and hope to see friends at some of the events this summer.

Best wishes,

Mark Orchin

More recently under mark orchin there are a number of tracks that we have uploaded with some band archive photos (edited 27.4.15).

Gigs 2014

3rd May – Cock Inn Wivelsfield Green (mainly Alchemy our rock band)

23rd May – 6 Bells Chiddingly 1.30pm – Touchstone

28th June – Crawley Folk Festival 4.00pm – Touchstone

28th June – Wivelsfield Village Hall Barn Dance 8.00pm – Touchstone

2014 update

This year is Touchstone’s 25th anniversary! Although we are not anywhere near as active theses days (in terms of gigs) we are playing at the 6 Bells Chiddingly on Sunday lunchtime 25th May 1.30pm. This is where we met Chris Jewell and started our long association with Folk Camps.

Touchstone are also headlining Crawley Folk Festival on Saturday 28th June @ 4.00pm and this will be our 23rd consecutive year at this event so we are really looking forward to this day.

Later on the 28th we are finally back together as a barn dance band once more at Wivelsfield Village Hall with Chris, Mark, Dave and Steve playing as a ceilidh band again after a long break. This should be a great night, so if you require tickets (£10.00) email

Touchstone hope to play more in the future, Mark has now almost completed his BA Hons with the OU, Steve has retired from work (too young!!) and we would love to do some more live work and recording. The acoustic album is planned at some point in the future maybe to include some new songs.

Mark and John Sandford have teamed up to write some songs and early indications look very promising.

For the future we are pencilled in for Eastbourne Lamas 2015 and also hope to do Crawley, the 6 Bells and maybe even another ceilidh (or two).

Best wishes, Mark, Bonnie, Chris, Steve, Dave, Rowena, John – Easter 2014.
