Biography 1

In 2003 Following a successful career for over 20 years in the UK grocery industry I left my senior management role and ditched travel, expenses, etc. and came into teaching and music full time. Prior to this I had been teaching extensively on a part time basis for both West Sussex County Council Adult Education, and privately.

I have extensive experience in education as a course trainer and presenter at National industry events from my career in Lloyds TSB, Unilever, P&O, Duracell and latterly with Nestle UK. In 2003 I gained the first part of the Cert Ed. teaching qualification, and intend to start Open University as soon as time allows.

I have been playing guitar for over 30 years and have played with a number of bands most notably ‘Touchstone’ the successful Sussex Folk-Rock band who have released 5 albums since 1991. In 1995 singer Bonnie Flitney and myself won the ‘Best new artist’ award at the National Folk Festival sponsored by Brewhouse Records, this led to a string of UK Festival appearances and supports to Acts like the Oyster Band, Fairport Convention, Show of Hands, Kenny Ball and many more. Touchstone have played around 400 gigs, and lots of radio plays and interviews.

In 1989 I was invited to join chart topping band ‘M’ who had just re-released their worldwide hit ‘Pop Music’, unfortunately after getting to number 15 in the charts it quickly dropped down the rankings and that was that!

I have always jumped at the opportunity to ‘jam’ with other players and the most notable jams have been in 1999 with legendary Buddy Guy’s house band at the top blues club in Chicago USA (I also met Buddy Guy), with the ‘Jean Baptiste Band’ in Birmingham 2000 and with ‘The Commitments’ at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane 2003. I even jammed with a trad. Greek band in Crete!!
In addition to Touchstone I play fiddle and mandolin with the Sussex based Ceilidh Band ‘One the Rum’ which I run with my wife Valerie.
